Hanwell Aint So Bad...

We finally moved after what feels like an eternity hibernating in Brentford! It felt great to fire up the engine and untie the lines and get going! We have traveled a relatively short distance to the  Hanwell flight and have moored up just before the hard work begins.
Finally some good weather and sunsets to enjoy!

I've been here a few days now, exploring the neighborhood really recommend it as a stopover with it's plethora of cafes and pubs - including the excellent The Fox situated conveniently near to the canal offering an atmosphere that only a family run pub can provide. We even got to see some sunshine, and enjoy their garden/creche.

A short walk in to Hanwell town, and you have everything you need; a Lidle, Fishmongers, Bakery a few grocers, a library, and way too many cafes including the newly opened Fade To Black which offers an antidote to the more Mumsy Clocktower Cafe over the road and the friendly W7 Emporium with outdoor seating at the back - a little hard to find (look out for the Boston Florists opposite Wickes) but worth it for the fresh smoothies and friendly couple that run it.

Plenty of parks and tree lined streets give it all a pleasant suburban feel with enough going on not to be completely dull.

Still trying to find good recycling and waste facilities, so far the best I have managed to find is a 10 minute drive from the canal at Greenford Recycling Centre but this would not be suitable for a ccr without a car and the  queues were pretty bad even on a Monday. Waitrose in Ealing has good carpark recycling but again you will need wheels!

And talking of wheels, there is plenty well lit/ safe parking close to the canal too - making life easy if you travel with a car.

Our next venture will take us up through the Hanwell flight - a series of 6 locks that run alongside the  back of the brutish Ealing  hospital. Chris will be doing all of the work of course - given my 'current condition' but I will remember how pleasant this neck of the woods is!
